The European Society for the History of the Human Sciences 2021, online conference, call for abstracts

The European Society for the History of the Human Sciences (ESHHS) invites submissions to its online conference to be held from June 29 to July 2, 2021. The timeframe still has to be decided on, but we will choose timeframes that are suitable for Europeans, but also allow scholars from outside Europe to join the meeting.

Oral presentations, sessions or workshops may deal with any aspect of the history of the human, behavioural and social sciences or with related historiographic and methodological issues.

Guidelines for submission

Any submission should include the following: name, email and institutional address of the first author. Please indicate clearly the submission type: oral presentation, session or workshop.

• Proposals for oral presentations should contain a 500-600 word abstract in English plus a short bibliography. If the presentation itself will be held in another language, please indicate this in your proposal. Oral presentations will be 20 minutes, followed by 10 minutes for discussion.

• Proposals for a session or workshop should contain a 500-600 word rationale of the event, plus a short bibliography, as well as a short abstract for each individual contribution to the event.

• Please send your proposal as attachment in MSWord (.doc/.docx) to the head of the programme committee: Jannes Eshuis (jannes.eshuis@ou.nl)

• Deadline for submissions is April 1, 2021.

Papers accepted for last year’s ESHHS/Cheiron joint conference

Last summer’s ESHHS/Cheiron joint conference originally scheduled to take place face-to-face at Sarah Lawrence College, was changed to an online conference due to the COVID-pandemic. All scholars that had been accepted for inclusion in the program, were then given the option of withdrawing their paper but having it accepted for either the ESHHS or Cheiron’s 2021 conference. For those a simple message that they wish to be included in this year’s program with last year’s submission will suffice.

Of course, it might be the case that your view on the topic has shifted somewhat, or your ideas have been developed further. If so, this will not affect the prior acceptance of your paper, but we would like to ask you to send an updated version of the abstract to be included in this year’s program.

Further information about the conference will soon appear on http://www.eshhs.eu/

If you have any questions in the meantime, please direct them at Jannes Eshuis: jannes.eshuis@ou.nl
