Nadia Zavorotna, Scholars in Exile: The Ukrainian Intellectual World in Interwar Czechoslovakia, Toronto-Buffalo-London, University of Toronto Press 2020. ISBN 9781487504458

In the interwar years, émigré scholars in Czechoslovakia provided continuity and a bridge for Ukrainian scholarship from its inception at the end of the nineteenth century to the development of Ukrainian studies in the twenty-first century. These scholars forged a legacy that spread beyond Czechoslovakia. Without their work in the postwar era, the development of Ukrainian émigré scholarship would not have flourished.

Narrated from a Ukrainian perspective, Scholars in Exile concentrates on the astounding efforts by Ukrainians to establish institutions of higher learning in the unique democratic spirit of Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk. The book also explores Ukrainian scholarly and professional societies, museum and archival collections, scholarly publishing, and little-known intellectual connections between Ukrainian émigré scholars and their colleagues in Czechoslovakia and various other European countries. Scholars in Exile brings to light an interesting facet of modern Ukrainian history, allowing for a better understanding of the general intellectual and institutional history of Ukraine.

„The Methodological Studies” is a philosophical journal devoted to a wide range of methodological issues, such as general methodology of science, the results of scientific knowledge and various research procedures applied in formal, natural and social sciences. The journal invites also contributions that deal with sciences that only begin to form the methodological foundations, such as cognitive sciences, bio-medical sciences, climat change sciences and all other applied sciences. Finally, the journal welcomes also papers that present various case studies provided that they offer conclusions which are either general in nature or essentially important for a given science.

[from the introduction]
"(...) at the end of 2019 I stand on the border of two academic worlds. One is the traditional world that has shaped both my identity as a professor-scholar and my identity as an academic teacher. The other is the world of new legal regulations that create a new reality of Polish universities - which brings about a certain reconstruction of my identity, both in relation to scholarship and didactics. Functioning in two realities (and performing many academic functions for decades), this traditional and the "new," allows me a "clear look." I was/I am inside/outside both of these realities and I can find myself in them. I understand the logic of each of them.
The book, intended to be devoted mainly to the passion of doing science, was "modified" while writing; new problem fields appeared in my mind, as subsequent chapters illustrate. But I decided to keep the concept of passion in the title, because it is passion that is this book's main and optimistic hero - even if sometimes only the implicit one."

Drabarek, Anna, Woleński, Jan, Radzki, Mateusz (Eds.) Interdisciplinary Investigations into the Lvov-Warsaw School. Basingstoke: Palgrave Macmillan, 2019. ISBN 978-3-030-24485-9

Makes a significant contribution to the understanding of the philosophical legacy of the Lvov-Warsaw School
Links the analytic philosophy of the Lvov-Warsaw school to the Brentano School and the logical positivism of the Vienna Circle
Explores diverse philosophical themes from the Lvov-Warsaw school relating to the philosophy of science, logic, psychology and computer science.
This book presents the heritage of the Lvov-Warsaw School from both the historical and the philosophical perspective. The historical view focuses on the beginnings and the dramatic end of the School brought about by the outbreak of World War II. The philosophical view, on the other hand, encompasses a broad spectrum of issues, including logical, epistemological, axiological, and psychological problems, revealing the interdisciplinary nature of studies carried out by Kazimierz Twardowski and his students.
With thirteen diverse and original essays this volume is split into three parts: History, Culture and Axiology; Psychology; and Logic and Methodology. Exploring not only the history of philosophy represented by the Lvov-Warsaw school, the book also reflects on the condition of contemporary philosophy from the perspective of concepts developed by its representatives. Furthermore, the studies presented in this book delve into problems of contemporary science and its distinctive interdisciplinary character. This volume is, therefore, not only a collection of analyses of the Lvov-Warsaw School philosophy, but also an investigation into the interdisciplinarity of science and philosophy itself.
Anna Drabarek is Professor of Philosophy at The Maria Grzegorzewska University, Institute of Philosophy and Sociology, Poland. Jan Woleński, is Professor of Philosophy at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków, Institute of Philosophy, Poland, as well as Professor of Philosophy at the University of Information, Technology and Management in Rzeszów, Poland. Mateusz M. Radzki is Assistant Professor at The Maria Grzegorzewska University, Institute of Philosophy and Sociology in Warsaw, Poland.
