The Last Judgment of Hans Memling is a fascinating and intriguing work. At the same time, despite many works devoted to him, it has still not been fully discovered and remains mysterious. It opens so many research threads that they cannot be covered by referring to only one field of knowledge. As one of the greatest treasures of Polish heritage, it deserves our special attention, while as a work whose history is closely connected with Gdańsk, it occupies an important place in the memory and hearts of Gdańsk residents. Among scholars fascinated by it, is the Gdańsk-based Jerzy Jankau, a plastic surgeon who discovered Memling's triptych for himself over 20 years ago and looked at him with an eye of a physician and anatomist, and although during his analyzes he found many anatomical errors in the construction of the character, he remained unchanged respect for the work of the painter, remaining impressed with him.

Sąd Ostateczny Hansa Memlinga jest dziełem fascynującym i intrygującym, a jednocześnie mimo wielu prac mu poświęconych wciąż nie do końca odkrytym, tajemniczym. Otwiera tak wiele wątków badawczych, że nie można ich objąć, odwołując się do jednej tylko dziedziny wiedzy. Jako jeden z największych skarbów polskiego dziedzictwa zasługuje na naszą szczególną uwagę, natomiast jako dzieło, którego historia ściśle wiąże się z Gdańskiem, zajmuje ważne miejsce przede wszystkim w pamięci i sercach gdańszczan. Wśród nich jest gdańszczanin Jerzy Jankau, chirurg plastyk, który zafascynował się tryptykiem Memlinga ponad 20 lat temu i spojrzał na niego okiem lekarza i anatoma, i choć podczas swoich analiz wykrył wiele błędów anatomicznych w budowie postaci, to zachował niezmienny szacunek wobec dzieła malarza, pozostając pod ogromnym jego wrażeniem.
