Anna Paulina Jabłonowska was an outstanding representative of the Polish Enlightenment, creator of one of the largest and most valuable natural collections of eighteenth-century Europe. She was the author of works in the field of economics and administration of goods, a patron of science and art, as well as an influential politician. She supported, among others, rev Krzysztof Kluk, the author of "Dictionary of Plants" (Dykcyonarz roślinny) and many other works dedicated to, among others, agriculture and medicinal plants.Due to the rich activity of duchess Anna Jabłonowska, we are planning a series of speeches given by representatives of various scientific disciplines such as history, agriculture, pharmacy, botany and museology. The figure of duchess Anna Jabłonowska may, even today, be an inspiring model of a woman, citizen and innovator in the field of agriculture and agricultural management as well as pioneer of nature research. The aim of the conference is to present the outstanding figure of Duchess Anna Jabłonowska and her many achievements, which still have not been fully recognized and appreciated, especially in the context of her innovative activity in the field of natural and agricultural sciences at the end of the First Polish Republic. The result will be the restoration of the memory of the importance of the activities carried out by duchess Anna Jabłonowska for the development of natural sciences in the 18th century, in particular the innovations she introduced in the field of managing agricultural and horticultural crops. We plan to emphasize her pioneering work related to the acclimatization of plants and the continuity of the tradition of growing herbs in our lands. We also expect that the conference will initiate interdisciplinary research on the modern importance of duchess Anna Jabłonowska’s collector, social and economic activities, as well as achievements in the field of breeding and acclimatization of exotic plants.
We have the ambition to organize a conference important for both scientists and regional history researchers.
Our speakers will be historians, science historians, scientists in the field of agriculture and forestry, and museologists.
